Dick Moeller, Founder of Water to Thrive, will participate in the Adult Sunday School hour (9:45 a.m., Community Room) at Central Lutheran Chruch in Minneapolis MN to discuss the water crises in Ethiopia and W2T’s mission to bring sustainable clean, safe water to rural commumities there.

Having visited Ethiopia 4 times in the last 3 years, Dick will share his personal stories of connecting with communities both before and after receiving the blessing of clean, safe water.

In addition, the first of a two part series on Water to Thrive has appeared in the Metro Lutheran paper in Minneapolis. The Metro Lutheran is a pan-Lutheran Twin Cities publications, with about 60,000 copies being distributed to all Lutheran churches in the area.

Here is the link on the Metro Lutheran website that has an online version of the printed article:

Meet Some of the villagers of Degola Chinchaye.

The kebele (village) of Degola Chinchaye is situated in the Amhara region of the Gondar district of Ethiopia. It is a rural kebele, with 83.81% of the population in the target areas obtaining their water from unprotected streams, springs, and open water sources, including the one in the above photo. This coming year, Water to Thrive has committed to building 10 water projects for the people of Degola Chinchaye, helping to address the critical shortage of clean water, as well as provide hygiene and sanitation training for an estimated 2,980 rural residents.

The local community will be fully engaged in the well building process, carrying out small tasks for free, to reduce labor costs. This also encourages community participation and ensures community ownership upon project completion. Once the water project is complete, a committee will be formed and trained on well maintenance and management. The committee will consist of 5-6 people, half of them female.

So…..what’s next?

Fare well to 2010

Our wish for the rural Africans we serve is that they fare well in the upcoming year – far better than they have in the past. Clean water is the essential ingredient for this wish to come true. Clean water for disease prevention. Clean water for good health.

A new well in a community changes everything. Health improves immediately. Lives are saved. People fare well.

Please consider a year-end gift, as a “fare well” to 2010, to help the people of Degola Chinchaye. Your gift of any amount will help us bring clean water to this needy village, and some of the world’s poorest people. Help us make a lasting impact on their lives by offering health and wholeness in the new year.

Farewell to 2010 and may they fare well in 2011. Please click here to make a gift to the people of Degola Chinchaye. In the space for the “Donation Dedication,” please choose for your donation to be on behalf of Degola Chinchaye.

All our best,

Your friends at Water to Thrive
